Kidnapping Water: Bottled Operas features classical and experimental opera singers and water percussionists in a ceremonial event that explores water migration and human foibles. During Bumbershoot, Kidnapping Water musicians will find themselves in the DuPen Fountain singing and splashing through these 64 Bottled Operas that have a curious relationship to the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. Created by composer Byron Au Yong in collaboration with eight librettists from around the world, Bottled Operas have been performed in rivers, lakes, fountains, sloughs, ravines, and other waterways as part of 4Culture's King County Performance Network Site-Specific Art Happenings. Kidnapping Water: Bottled Operas will be featured in an installation at the Jack Straw New Media Gallery in September 2008 and is supported by Creative Capital's MAP Fund.
This performance is a special Site-Specific event, which will appear as a spontaneous happening on the festival grounds. Keep your eyes and ears open for this art that does not require a traditional venue or stage!
