Natya UW is the University of Washington’s premiere Indian classical dance team, 100% student led since its foundation in 2009. Each dancer is trained in the ancient art form of Bharathanatyam, which uses hand gestures, rhythmic footwork and facial expressions to tell stories deeply embedded in Indian culture. Natya UW also explores the unique application of traditional steps to contemporary music, thereby creating their signature style. Some past performances include Kollaboration Seattle, Northwest Folklife, and 3rd place at national competition Laasya 2014.
