Comedy at the Playhouse
The well-informed opinions and unflinching honesty of unflappable comedian, actress, and activist Janeane Garofalo have not only inspired laughs, but have struck a chord with the left, right and everyone in between. She has had many critically acclaimed roles in film and TV such as Reality Bites, Ratatouille, 24, The West Wing and Saturday Night Live.
W. Kamau Bell
Socio-political comedian W. Kamau Bell has emerged as the postmodern voice of comedy. Named an “Ambassador of Racial Justice” by the ACLU, his weekly half-hour FX comedy series, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, premiered in August 2012 and had a critically acclaimed but criminally short run. Punchline Magazine praised him as “one of our nation’s most adept racial commentators with a blistering wit.” SF Weekly called Kamau “smart, stylish, and very much in the mold of politically outspoken comedians like Dave Chappelle,” though Bell was more excited that they called him “handsome.”
Born in New Jersey to Caribbean parents, comedian/host/performer Michelle Buteau brings her unique perspective and big personality to stage and screen. She is a series regular on the popular VH1 show Best Week Ever and has appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Lopez Tonight, and Last Comic Standing.
