I’m an older guy (50’s) who’s starting to feel a wee bit removed from the current line-up. I have no problem w/ it, I just don’t know who to see anymore. I need help…
I loved Lee (Scratch) Perry and Joe Bonamassa from lasr year. Previous fav’s have been Maktub, Kinky, Donna (silly fun).
Big stage.. Band of Horses, Kings of Leon, LUCINDA WILLIAMS and John Butler Trio.
Catch my drift… point this newby in the right direction with hints and ideas.
    Thanks..

    To Peter:
Honestly, with such a great and diverse taste in music, I think you will be safe going to pretty much every artist in the Bumbershoot 2009 lineup.

Like “If you like Lee “Scratch” Perry, you’ll enjoy stylings of Adrian Xavier.

If you dig Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinand, Low Vs Diamond and Modest Mouse are probably up your alley, too.

Fans of Band of Horses should check out fellow Seattleites, The Cave Singers.

Carrie Rodriguez picks up a similar sound and style as Lucinda Williams. If you’re a fan of female vocalists, you might like Sera Cahoone, Lenka, or Eleni Mandell as well.

For the country country rock side of Lucinda Williams, I would recommend Todd Snider and Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women.

Joe Bonamassa is a great blues musician and Keller Williams has a unique mix of blues, country, funk, and jazz. You should probably check him out too.

If your looking for the fun up beat tempo of Kinky, check out Matt & Kim. If you like the latin influence of Kinky, then check out Cordero. If your going for the “let’s dance” electronica disco vibe, then go for MSTRKRFT.

Hopefully that helps you, but again I think with your taste in music, you’re really going to have an easy time finding shows you’ll love at Bumbershoot 2009.

I completely agree. Those are great comparisons. Cave Singers to Modest Mouse is definitely accurate.

So far I have only seen like two bands I know and they both suck. I was amazed last year at The Stone Temple Pilots and The Black Keys… so lets get some real rock on stage or grunge or what ever just not Crow or that perry lady. We need more young people bands and def. not TI again that was terrible.

My thinking is that Bumbershoot has chosen the lineup that they have in order to reach as many fans as possible. Undoubtedly they have some artists that some might not enjoy, but there are people out there that do like them. If you don’t like them, fine, but don’t criticize Bumbershoot for asking them to come. Just don’t show up.
