Bumbershoot Fresh
Standard Tickets for Saturday admission to see Bob Dylan, Neko Case, and the Decemberists are now SOLD OUT. This is the first time that Bumbershoot has ever had a sold out show before the Festival, so thank you everyone. We couldn’t think of a better way to kick of our 40th Festival. Plenty of Economy Tickets are still available for you to come and enjoy the rest of the Festival.
This is also another great reminder to pick up your Standard Tickets for Sunday and Monday before the Festival gates. Not only will you be taking advantage of advance pricing, but you’ll be guaranteeing your admission to see Weezer, Hole, and Rise Against or Mary J. Blige, Drake, and J. Cole—or both! These shows are going fast, too, so don’t get caught without yours in hand.
Still shocked that you missed your chance at Standard Tickets to see Bob Dylan performing on Bumbershoot’s Mainstage? There are still an extremely limited number of Platinum Passes available with guaranteed Mainstage access in addition to VIP entry at seven of Bumbershoot’s indoor venues. It’s a true VIP experience.
Bumbershoot Platinum Passes, Standard Tickets for Sunday and Monday, and Economy Tickets for all three days are available at their advance prices through Ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster outlets until 11:59 PM Friday, September 3.
This morning was The Marty Riemer Show’s last Official Bumbershoot Podcast until they start broadcasting from the Festival itself. The episode featured Brian Vogan, one of Bumbershoot’s Youngershoot artists. If you missed the live broadcast, you can download it or watch the webcast now. He talks about winning Zooglobble’s KidVid Tournament 2010, defining “kids’ music,” and teaching children how to play instruments from a young age. Brian Vogan & His Good Buddies also perform “27″ and “Cross the Street,” both off of 2010’s Sing a Little Song. Plus, Marty plays “Pregnant Women Are Smug,” a track by fellow Bumbershoot artists Garfunkel & Oates, in honor of Jodi’s impending bundle of joy.
A word of caution: this podcast contains language and subject matter that is not appropriate for all audiences.
Produced by Marty Riemer and Jodi Brothers, two veteran radio personalities with over 25 years experience in the business, The Marty Riemer Show is an independent production with new installments streaming daily at 9:30 am PST on their website and available for download through iTunes.
Get your tickets at the Festival gates to see Brian Vogan at Bumbershoot on Monday, September 6 at 1:00pm on the Northwest Court Stage.
The American Poster Institute’s Flatstock is one of the most popular parts of Bumbershoot, and now they’re offering you a chance to win posters from this year’s artists! To enter the contest, all you have to do is share your favorite memory from past Bumbershoots. The winner will be picked out of all the submissions on Friday, September 3 at 10am, and he or she will be able to pick up their poster pack prize at the API booth at Flatstock on Sunday or Monday (this means that in order to enter, you have to be attending Bumbershoot on one of those days). The last time Flatstock had a contest like this, the winner wound up getting 70+ posters worth over $1,400 – how can you ignore a prize that huge?
You’ve been sharing your Bumbermemories with us all summer long to celebrate our 40th anniversary, so why not head over to the Flatstock blog and comment with your favorite? Don’t forget to include your email and your first name and last initial when you post.

Even fans of multi-instrumentalist Booker T. may not fully grasp his impact on the soul and R&B genres. In 1962, he started playing as the frontman for Booker T. & the M.G.’s, the house band for Stax Records. The group first rose to fame later that year with “Green Onions,” a hit track that has been featured in movies and television shows including American Graffiti, Get Shorty, The Sandlot, and Memphis Beat.
Booker T. & the M.G.’s went on to release over ten albums, and that number doesn’t even include the 600+ recordings that feature them as the backing band. They’ve supported everyone from Otis Redding to Wilson Pickett to Sam & Dave, appearing on tracks as well known as “Soul Man,” “Hold On, I’m Comin,’” and “Try a Little Tenderness.”
While Booker T. & the M.G.’s still work together from time to time, Booker T. himself has also found success as a solo artist. For his newest album, 2009’s Potato Hole, he enlisted the Drive-By Truckers as his backing band, with additional accompaniment from none other than Neil Young on guitar. Check out the video below to see Booker T. in action during rehearsals.
Potato Hole won Best Pop Instrumental Album at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, but that win was far from his first taste of Grammy gold. In 2007, Booker T. & the M.G.’s were given the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the group also won Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “Cruisin’” in 1994. Plus, the group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, showing that all different types of music fans have embraced the band’s instrumental hybrid of R&B, rock, and soul.
Get your Economy Ticket now to see Booker T.’s legendary talent in person at Bumbershoot on Monday, September 6 at 8:30pm on the Starbucks Stage.
