Announcing the Announcements!

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for – the moment that officially kicks off Bumbershoot season! We’re proud to bring you the big announcement of the BIG. BUMBERSHOOT. ANNOUNCEMENT. PARTIES.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane for a second. Last year’s Prombershoot offered Bumber-goers two nights of prom-themed excitement, which culminated with the official Bumbershoot 2013 Music Lineup Announcement. This year offers new themed nights of music, arts, moderators, spectacles and performances. And this year we’re not just bringing you a night of music…

At Bumbershoot our Words & Ideas programs are always packed with patrons laughing, gasping, clapping, crying, and leaving the show completely amazed by the literary-meets-pop-culture treasures that Bumbershoot offers. So, to announce the 2014 Theatre, Spectacle, Visual Arts and Words & Ideas Lineups, musician John Roderick from The Long Winters will host the first-ever non-Festival version of our Words & Ideas series at Town Hall on Wednesday, April 16. Roderick — who is moderating the series at this year’s Bumbershoot — will lead a panel of specially selected guests in exploring “Why Selfies? Why Introverts? Why Now?” before unveiling this first round of the Festival’s non-music programming. Do selfies communicate the purest depiction of the present? Are introverts the next evolution of pop idol? Aren’t you dieing to know?! Tickets are only $5 each and on sale now.

Those anxiously holding their breaths over Bumbershoot’s Music Lineup can start counting down the days until the unveiling. Bumbershoot presents the Pink & Purple Pickwick Party at Neumos on May 8th. Seattle natives Pickwick will bring their  indie-soul beats to what’s sure to be one of the best happenings on the hill yet. With a sound similar to that of The Black Keys or Alabama Shakes, we’re excited to have these local heroes, and Bumbershoot alumni, serenading us through the night.

Naomi Wachira will open the show with her soothing indie-folk melodies. Naomi’s songs, inspired by her lifelong influences (groundbreaking female songwriters Miriam Makeba and Tracy Chapman) reflect both the music she discovered in America and the music she grew up with in Kenya.

When we say Pink & Purple, we mean it. Be prepared to see Neumos like you’ve never seen it before, decked out in Bumbershoot’s brand new look. Wear your best pink and purple to the party and pose with our life sized mascots, Captain Elliot, Saul, Britt, Diver Dan and Pablo. Then, tweet your pictures that night for a chance to win a plethora of prizes. There might just be Platinum Passes for whoever reps the pink and purple best…

Oh, and let’s not forget that the whole evening will be hosted by 74-time Jeopardy winner/novelist Ken Jennings as he keeps us entertained between sets. Go ahead, ask him ANYTHING!!!

The night culminates with the Bumbershoot 2014 Music Lineup and a room full of ecstatic Bumberfans and ticket buyers. Advance tickets are $15.

Three-day passes for Bumbershoot are currently $112 until the May 8 music announcement, and single-day tickets will become available at that time.

With the first announcement party under three weeks away, we hope you’re just as excited as we are for the kick off to a new Bumbershoot season!
