There exists a secret spot at Seattle Center during Labor Day Weekend. Bumbershoot’s “Room of Requirement,” if you will. Though it doesn’t require you to pace back and forth on the third floor of Hogwart’s castle corridor, it does entail a sign-up sheet via kexp.org.
Bumbershoot and Seattle’s very own music of discovery radio station KEXP 90.3 FM have unveiled the 2013 lineup to the Bumbershoot Music Lounge. Hosted by KEXP 90.3 FM – the Music Lounge is “secret,” and only those with a ticket know of its location during Bumbershoot. The Music Lounge offers a limited opportunity to catch select Festival artists in an intimate environment.
This year’s Music Lounge performers include the string flourishings and banjo pickings of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, synth-pop pioneer Gary Numan, and the screaming eagle of soul himself, Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires on Saturday August 31.
Sunday September 1 includes artists such as the legendary alternative rock stylings of Bob Mould, the unique twang of Sallie Ford and the Outside Sound, and rising UK pop star on the move, Charli XCX.
A full lineup of the music lounge schedule with dates and performance times can be viewed here.
There are two ways in which patrons can get tickets into the Music Lounge. Each weekday between Monday, August 5 and Friday, August 23, KEXP will open registration for one session. Listeners should tune in or listen online daily for details on which artist session will be opened and at what time. Registrations will be taken online at kexp.org at the specified time and on a first-come, first-served basis.
A few seats for each Music Lounge performance are also reserved for Bumbershoot Platinum Pass holders. Music fans who can’t make it to the Festival can experience the Music Lounge performances through live audio on-air at 90.3 FM in Seattle or online at kexp.org.
So stay tuned in all next week for your shot at getting into the secret spot! We hope to see you there!
